2019 March Madness Highlights – Three Likely Explosive Games to Look Out For
It’s that time of the year again when the most exciting college basketball tournament hits the road. The 2019 March Madness tournament has the potential to be perhaps the most exciting yet considering the lineups and matches scheduled.
Everyone has their sights set on the big teams such as the Duke Blue Devils. These teams will certainly put up a show, but it is the matches in the middle of the bracket that has the potential to be explosive as the teams fight it out for a chance at the trophy. With this in mind, here are three matches that promise to be more exciting and explosive than the rest.
- Marquette (No. 5) vs. Murray State (No. 12) – West Region
The match between Marquette, currently ranking 5th nationwide, and Murray State, ranking 12th, is expected to be the most exciting for the West region. Both of these teams are almost equally matched – Marquette is the 6th top scorer nationally while Murray State falls behind by only two positions, ranking at number 8. Both teams also have two notable players on whom they peg their hopes.
Marquette has Markus Howard who is currently one of the upcoming stars in the entire tournament. Howard shoots 41% from a three-point range and averages 25 points with a record of 17 shots per game. He will be leading his team in steals, assists, and points.
Murray State has Ja Morant, a projected lottery pick and formidable opponent. Morant currently leads in assists nationally with an average of 10 per game. He also has an impeccable record of explosive dunks and averages 24.6 points per game.
- Duke Blue Devils (No. 1) vas. NC Central (No. 16) – East Region
There is no guarantee that this match will actually happen. Why? Because North Dakota State is in the way – NC Central has to bet North Dakota State if it hopes to face off against the leading team, the Duke. However, considering that NC Central has also been showing great potential (so much so that some analysts are projecting it to end up among the final four), North Dakota State may not stand much of a chance.
There is no question that NC Central has a lot of fight in it in spite of the analysts being in favor of the Duke Blue Devils. This alone is enough for an explosive showdown. However, NC Central’s coach LeVelle Morton has ruffled some feathers with some of his latest comments about a likely match between the two teams.
The coach has this to say in his own words: “Some coaches will say ‘we’ll take on anyone! We’ll be ready!’ But I don’t want any part of playing Duke. Us playing against Zion would be like my 6-year-old son playing against me.” Duke will certainly be looking forward to proving him wrong, and it can’t come soon enough.
- Nevada (No. 7) vs. Florida (No. 10)
There is no telling how this match will turn out, but each team has strengths that will certainly come to the foreplay when the whistle blows. Florida is a formidable opponent considering that it has played 24 out of 34 games against some of the top-100 teams nationally and faired quite well in most of these games except for a few close calls. This rough experience has also given the team a formidable defense strategy. Nevada, on the other hand, is banking on three of its best scorers from the previous season’s sweet-16 run: Caleb Martin, Jordan Caroline, and Cody Martin.
However, it is expected that Florida will evoke its prowess in forcing turnovers – for which it ranks at no. 16 – to turn the tables on Nevada.
College basketball doesn’t get better than this and you cannot afford to miss any match. Wherever you may be, you can stream the March Madness tournament live and watch history in the making.
